Welcome to the State Bar of Texas Insurance Law Section
In Memoriam: Russell H. McMains
Attention Insurance Law Section Members and Colleagues:
We are saddened to inform the section that Rusty McMains passed away from a heart complication on Saturday, June 27, 2009. Rusty was a past Chair of the Insurance Section and was recognized as one of the Legends of Insurance Law. He was also active in the Appellate Section and the Pattern Jury Charge Committee. While our sympathy is with his family and friends, all of us in the legal community will feel his loss and will miss his intellect, wisdom and insightful commentary. He was a great scholar, a valuable mentor, a formidable opponent, and a friend to many.
A memorial service for Rusty will be heldThursday, July 2, at 3 p.m., at the First Methodist Church on Shoreline Drive, in Corpus Christi.
We know there are myriad stories about Rusty. We hope to include some of these in a tribute in our next Journal. If you have a favorite memory you would like to share, please send it to or .
Please keep Rusty's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
On June 15, 2006, the Insurance Law Section presented the First Ben Love Memorial Insurance Law Section Scholarship to honor and memorialize our friend, colleague and former counsel member of the Insurance Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. To honor Ben, we have established an annual scholarship at Southern Methodist University Law School which will be presented to a deserving second or third year law student who has successfully completed the insurance law course and shows an interest in pursuing an insurance-related practice. Donations may be sent to Ben Love Memorial Scholarship, c/o Insurance Law Section, PO Box 4646, Austin, TX 78765
